Pillars aim to topple Olympique de Bangui

Kano Pillars' coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru has said his side will win convincingly against their Caf Champions League opponents, Olympique de Bangui from Central African Republic.

The Nigerian champions will kick off their African title chase on Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Ganaru said his side will win massive to make the reverse fixture in a fortnight in Bangui a mere formality.

"We're going to do our best to ensure we finish the game in the first leg, and score as many goals as possible.

"The Central African Republic side are unknown to us. We're still struggling to lay hands on some of their match tapes but I think the surest bet is to win with a wide goal margin so as to make the return leg a mere formality.

"The players are still intact except Shehu Abdullahi who we're expecting to join us on Wednesday from the Flying Eagles' camp. Gabriel Reuben, too, we hope will be with us now that the Super Eagles are done with the Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

"There is no major injury worries among the players, I think we're ready to go," he said to supersport.com.

Ganaru said his side will not disappoint Nigerians despite failing in most of their trial matches.

"Trial matches are not the same as competitive games, so Nigerians shouldn't judge us with results of those matches. It won't affect our chances at the continent. We're determined to give Nigerians the best representation at the continent," he said.

The Pyramid City side are expected to return to Kano on Thursday from their closed door camp in Kaduna for the crucial encounter.
