FKF must invest in coach - Weche

Former Harambee Stars defender Mickey Weche believes that James Nandwa can do a good job for the national team, but only if the Football Kenya Federation invests in him.

Nandwa has been in and around the Stars squad in the last six months, helping out on an interim basis before taking charge of the side on a full time capacity.

His best achievements have been taking the side to the final of the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup as well as beating Libya in a friendly match this week.

Weche believes that a coach is as good as what he is made to be and that Nandwa can do a job for the side if they give him a good opportunity.

“I always believe that a coach is as good as you want him to be. If you want him to be world class, you can take him around the world and teach him how to be,” he said.

“As long as he gets the basics right and is good with players, then he can be improved. That is what I feel with Nandwa, who the federation should give a chance. They can appoint him and give him the right tools to work and he will be a definite success.

“It is up to the federation to ensure he is in good stead, then the team will improve,” he said.

As for a foreign coach, Weche is not too keen.

“A foreign coach is all good but how will the federation treat him. Even if you get in Sir Alex Ferguson and treat him the way the federation does, he will not do well.

“The fact is that if they are looking for one, then invest in him. Give him the facilities, the money and the environment to work well. “Do I see that happening? No.”
