Stima sign Ugandan starlet

Western Stima have signed Ugandan youngster Shafik Batambuze.

Batambuze can play on the wing as well as at full-back, and has impressed Stima coach Francis Baraza to the extent that he has awarded him a two-year contract.

He has made an immediate impact at the club, scoring in the 2-0 friendly win over Malaba Border on Friday 25 January.

Baraza is happy to have him in the squad and hopes he will add some much-needed quality to the side.

“We have signed Shafik Batambuze, a Ugandan wing-back,” said Baraza. “He joins on a two-year deal. “He is the child of Ugandan great Eddy Batambuze and has a very good football background.

“I am happy with his acquisition because he is young and can learn a lot, as well as being versatile as he can play on the wing as well as in defence. “I hope that he will be a success here.” Baraza added that he is close to finalising his squad for the season.

“The squad is more or less done but for now, I guess I have an idea of where we are as a team,” he said.

“If there will be an addition, it will be very last minute and something has to show up that is very good. “For now, I am happy with what we have here and hope for the best,” he concluded.

Stima will play their first tournament of the year when they take to the pitch in the Kenya Power Charity Cup next weekend.
