Under-23 call up excites Ajiboye

Pontevedra CFof Spain goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye has expressed delight over his invitation to the Nigerian Under-23 national team for the All Africa Games qualifier against Equatorial Guinea in Benin City on March 26.

The 20-year old goalkeeper told SuperSport.com on telephone from his base in Spain that he is looking forward to joining with his teammates in preparation for the Equatorial Guinean clash.

The former Wikki Tourists’ goalkeeper opined thus:

“It is good news for me that I have been called up to join the Under-23 national team. I am ready to play my part if I am given the chance to play. But seriously I am happy to be given the opportunity to play for one of the national teams after doing same with the Under-17 and Under-20 teams a few years ago.”

Ajiboye, who won the Fifa Under-17 World Championship with Nigeria in 2007, added that he is ready for the fight to claim a starting place in the team.

“I know that there are other quality goalkeepers in the team, but I will go to the camp and try as much as possible to justify my invitation by the coaches.

"I hope that my performance will convince them to give me the chance to keep for my country again,” he said.

The Spain-based player revealed to SuperSport.com that he will leave the shores of Spain and team up with his teammates on March 20 to prepare for the game against Equatorial Guinea.

Ajiboye is one of the 11 foreign-based players called up by the Under-23 head coach, Austin Eguavoen, for the game against Equatorial Guinea.

Other foreign-based players include Obiorah Nwankwo, Daniel Uchechi, Kennedy Nwanganga, Haruna Lukman, Okechukwu Uchebo, Chukwuma Akabueze, Ganiyu Oseni, Alex Albert, Edet Ibok and Nurudeen Orelesi.
