Drogba in court

A French construction company based in Ajaccio has filed a case against Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba for allegedly failing to pay the balance of a building project, Corse Matin said on Wednesday.

The owner of Acqua Viva, Leonard Simoni, is demanding €394,000 (R4.7m) as outstanding payment and an additional €660,000 (R7.9m) in damages, the newspaper said.

A court in Ajaccio will open a hearing on Wednesday.

Drogba and his wife awarded the construction of their house in Abidjan to Acqua Nova, but the firm claims the couple is yet to settle costs for extra work carried out at the gigantic site.

A lawyer, Franck Dymarsky, who represents the Galatasaray forward, is challenging the jurisdiction of the court of Ajaccio in this case.

Drogba is also completing a £3 million (R42m) hospital in Abidjan that he says will offer services to the less privileged.
