Adebayor plays down star status

Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor says he is not the star of the Hawks team at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The Tottenham Hotspur attacker, who is the captain of the team, insists the strength of the Togo squad lies in all the players rather than an individual.

Togo will face Tunisia in Nelspruit on Wednesday needing at least a draw to finally get past the group stage. It would be the first time in eight appearances that Togo would advance.

Adebayor was hugely instrumental in the team's 2-0 victory over Algeria which has put them on course for a historic achievement in the tournament.

He scored the first goal in the match which led to praises that he is the key to the successes of Togo but the striker simply brushed that aside.

"I may be a star in Europe but when I join the national team I have to set this aside and give everything to the team. I'm not above the others," Adebayor said.

"Eleven players play the game of football. If I start to be the star of the team it will not help me let alone the country.

"Yes, it is true that the players respect me as their captain and what I have achieved in my career. But I have to share this with my teammates. Without them I am nobody.

"The most important thing is that all goes well between us and we have to respect each other."
