Etoo not on Caf's shortlist

Two Cameroonian stars; Alexandre Song of Barcelona and Yannick N'Djeng of Esperance of Tunis have been nominated for best player awards by the Confederation of African Football (Caf)

Song's nomination comes at the expense of Eto'o whose name is absent from the shortlist after about a decade of presence. This year, Song has dethroned the Indomitable Lions skipper Samuel Eto'o who has featured in the Caf nominations for about a decade. The Anzhi striker has also won the prestigious award a record four times. This comes on the heels of a fierce Eto'o/Song clash in the Cameroon national team.

Song who recently moved to Spanish giants Barcelona was nominated for African Player of the Year award alongside Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast, John Mickel Obi of Nigeria and Christopher Katongo of Zambia.

He had a phenomenal season with Arsenal, giving most of the assists leading to most of the team's goal. He established himself as one of the vital Arsenal players who was both defensive and offensive before Barcelona came calling.

Meanwhile, N'Djeng features in the nominations for Africa-based Player of the Year award.

On his part, N'Djeng also had a fantastic season with Esperance, leading the North African team to win the African Champions League.

The awards will be announced at a ceremony on December 20 in Accra, Ghana
